Seminar on the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme

On October 3, a seminar on the UNESCO Memory of the World programme was held as part of the II Congress of Archivists "Heritage Institutions on the Way to Sustainable Development of Society". The seminar is aimed at activating the activities of the UNESCO Memory of the World programme and served as a platform for exchanging views on the preparation of new nominations for the international Memory of the World register. A. Abdrakhmanov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO in Paris, addressed the participants of the seminar with a welcome address. Leading experts of the programme shared their experience: Head of the Documentary Heritage Department of the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO Fackson Banda, Director of the Civil Society Initiative of the Higher School of Development of the University of Central Asia, member of the subcommittee of the Memory of the World Register Aizharkyn Kozhobekova.

The President of the Forum of National Archivists of the ICA, Director of the National Archives of Suriname, member of the International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World Program Rita Tjien Fooh spoke about the experience of implementing the program in the Caribbean region, and the Director of the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the National Committee of the Program G. Nurgaliyeva gave examples of the successful work of the Program in Kazakhstan. Following the seminar, UNESCO program experts gave their comments and recommendations that will be useful for preparing applications. Fackson Banda expressed hope that following the results of this seminar, the number of applications for inclusion in the international register "Memory of the World" will increase in the coming years. The participants of the seminar were awarded certificates.
