On 25 January 2025, by order of the Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in coordination with the Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Shakarimovich Alimgazinov was appointed Deputy Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
He graduated from the Faculty of History of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 1996. From 1996 to 1999, he pursued full-time postgraduate studies in History. In 2001, he defended his Candidate of Historical Sciences (PhD equivalent) dissertation, in which he was the first to apply methods of quantitative analysis and modeling of historical processes (Kendall’s and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients) to the study of complex historical texts.
In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Electronic Historical Source: Theoretical and Methodological Aspects and Technology of Source Analysis.”
He is the author of sections of the five-volume academic edition “History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day,” as well as scholarly monographs, historiographical and methodological essays, reference and methodological publications, popular science works, and studies in archival science and archaeography.
He served as a member of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the Study of National History and of the State Commission for the Full Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression in Kazakhstan. Since 2009, he has been a member of the international association History and Computing. In 2017, he completed the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) of the United States Department of State.
From 2000 to 2013, Kairat Shakarimovich taught at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, UIB, and Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, progressing from assistant lecturer to Associate Professor of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Since 2009, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of the information and analytical journal “Deloproizvodstvo” and is a member of the editorial boards of leading academic journals in history, archival science, and records management. He is also a member of the Methodological Council of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan on archival affairs and documentation, as well as of the Dissertation Council of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University.
Since 2013, he has been working at the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where he has successively held the positions of Chief Expert, Head of Department, Chief Research Fellow, and Head of Center.
He currently oversees the Service for the Organization and Appraisal of Archival Fonds, the Center for Scientific and Applied Research, and the Service of Digital Technologies and Innovations.
