Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Archives of France signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

On November 4-5, 2024, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the French Republic. As part of the visit of the Head of State, at the Ministry of Culture of France, with the participation of the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, as well as the Minister of Culture of France Rachida Dati, a number of important documents were signed aimed at further developing cooperation between the two states in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Archives of the French Republic, signed by the heads of the leading archival institutions of the two countries Aliya Mustafina and Bruno Ricard, opens unique opportunities for studying and preserving documentary heritage, exchanging experience, conducting joint scientific and practical research as well as organizing bilateral exhibitions.

It should be noted that the National Archives of France is one of the largest archival institutions in the world, whose collection preserves about more than 12 centuries of the history of the French State. The archive was founded in 1790 during the Great French Revolution and it is here that the original Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen (1789) is kept - a document that forms the basis of the Constitution of France. Among the extensive collection of rare documents of the National Archives of France, there are also documents related to various stages of the history of Kazakhstan. According to researchers, significant potential for further study is represented by topics related to the search and study of documents on the activities of the Kazakh intelligentsia, especially Mustafa Shokai, who lived and worked in Paris since 1921. An important area is also the study of the participation of Kazakhstanis in the Resistance movement during World War II, as well as many other aspects of the relationship and interaction of the Kazakh and French peoples in different historical periods.
