The Archive of the President of Kazakhstan and the National Library and Archives of the UAE strengthen cooperation

Today, August 19, in Astana, a meeting took place between Aliya Mustafina, Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and H.E. Dr. Abdulla Majed Al Ali, Director General of the National Library and Archives of the United Arab Emirates. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation and issues related to the development of archival work.

In welcoming her foreign colleagues, Aliya Mustafina personally presented the guests with the new building of the Archive of the President, its modern resources, as well as the institution’s activities and international projects. The delegation showed particular interest in the architectural design of the building, the record restoration laboratories, and the top notch repositores.

During the meeting, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Majed Al Ali spoke about a training program for young specialists in archival studies, implemented in cooperation with University Sorbonne Abu Dhabi. The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of professional development of archivists, exchange of experience, and the organization of joint internships.

Special attention was given to the prospect of jointly publishing archival materials and academic works, which would help to expand cultural and scholarly ties between Kazakhstan and the UAE.

It should be noted that cooperation between the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan and the National Library and Archives of the UAE began in 2023 with the signing of a memorandum. Since then, the two sides have implemented a number of joint projects: a Kazakhstani delegation took part in an international congress in Abu Dhabi, while representatives of the Emirates attended the Summer School for Young Archivists in Almaty.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the guests emphasized their interest in further strengthening the partnership and expressed their willingness to come to Astana for the International Congress of Archivists, which the Archive of the President will host in the fall of 2026.
