Visit to France

Fr om April 16 to 18, a delegation led by the Director of the Archive of the President A. Mustafina went on a business trip to Paris. The visit took place at the invitation of the International Council on Archives (ICA). The delegation of the Presidential Archives got acquainted with the activities of the International Council on Archives (ICA) and the National Archives of France, as well as discussed with them the implementation of joint projects based on bilateral cooperation.

 On April 16, the Director of the Archive met with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other international organizations in Paris A. Abrahmanov, during which they discussed prospects for the development of cooperation between the Archive of the President and UNESCO, the International Council on Archives (ICA) and other international organizations. In addition, based on the program of the Permanent Delegation, a meeting was held between the Director of the Archive and Tawfik Djelassi, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Communication and Information. A meeting was about the development of a bilateral partnership with UNESCO, the participation of the organization’s leadership in the work of the II International Congress of Archivists of Kazakhstan, which will be held in Almaty this year from October 1 to 4, the restoration of activities within the framework of the UNESCO Memory of the World program, as well as issues of organizing a thematic seminar on the Memory of the World program and digitalization of documentary heritage for specialists from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries within the framework of the Congress.

On April 17, director of the Archive of the President A. Mustafina and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the French Republic G. Arystankulova had a meeting, wh ere they discussed issues of developing cooperation and bilateral relations between the Presidential Archives and the National Archives of France.

 The parties exchanged views on the prospects for searching for documents related to the history of Kazakhstan and France in the archives of the two countries, popularizing archival documents through organizing historical and documentary exhibitions through the Embassy, studying documentary heritage related to the destinies and history of representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia who lived and worked in France in for various reasons, compatriots who were in partisan detachments in France during the Second World War, searching for data on Kazakh prisoners of war held captive in concentration camps.

 On April 18, the director of the Presidential Archives met with Carlos Serrano Vazquez, executive director of the International Council on Archives. At the meeting, they  exchanged views on the II International Congress of Archivists of Kazakhstan, which will be held with the support of the International Council on Archives. The director of the Archive also met with the director of the National Archives of France, Bruno Ricard. The meeting discussed the development of a memorandum of cooperation between the two institutions, the implementation of joint research projects, the exchange of archival documents, document exhibitions, and the organization of training projects aimed at improving the skills of archival specialists. In addition, a tour of the National Archives was organized for the delegation of the Archive of the President.
