Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library
On March 7, the delegation of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan visited the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. The library is one of the presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). It was the opening of Franklin D. Roosevelt's library on June 30, 1941 that marked the beginning of the US presidential library system. During a meeting with Kazakh archivists, William A. Harris, director of the Roosevelt Library, noted that President Roosevelt understood the historical significance of presidential documents, which must be preserved for future generations. At a meeting with American colleagues, Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Mustafina talked about initiation of Archive’s several international projects.
Today, the Presidential Archive is implementing a large-scale project “Open society – open Archive”, which includes exhibitions, round tables, archival schools for specialists, and thematic meetings. Currently, preparations have begun for the II-nd Congress of Archivists “Open society – open Archive”, which will take place in October this year. Aliya Mustafina invited representatives of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library to take part in the forum and tell about their work. The experience of organizing and conducting numerous events of US presidential libraries, which are attended by schoolchildren, students, politicians, and scientists, is useful for archival specialists. Creative ideas, the use of modern technologies, new publishing projects - it was interesting and exciting.
