A seminar on the collection, storage and use of audiovisual documents

On December 19, 2024, a seminar on the collection, preservation, state registration, and use of audiovisual documents was held at the Central State Archive of Film, Photo Documents, and Sound Recordings of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was organized within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation between the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Central State Archive of Film, Photo Documents, and Sound Recordings of Kazakhstan. Employees from the Archive of the President, the Presidential Center, and the State Archive of Almaty participated in the seminar. The event featured presentations based on the activities of the Central State Archive of Film, Photo Documents, and Sound Recordings. A. Burkitova, head of the preservation, state registration, and technical control department, gave a presentation on the methodology for preserving audiovisual documents. Archivist of highest category S. Akmolda elaborated on the history of collecting sound recordings and the processes of digitizing, storing, and classifying photo documents.

He emphasized that extensive research is conducted on old photographs to determine the time and place of their creation. K. Shomanov, head of the collection and departmental archives division, addressed key issues related to replenishing audiovisual document collections, while Chief Expert E. Zhasybaev explained the features of describing photo documents in archival practices. E. Tolykbayeva, head of the scientific reference and research use department, delivered a presentation titled “Recorded History: An Overview of Archival Documents.” Seminar participants posed questions regarding the collection and preservation of audiovisual documents and engaged in discussions to exchange opinions and experiences. At the conclusion of the seminar, participants were awarded certificates. A special tour of the Central State Archive of Film, Photo Documents, and Sound Recordings was also organized, providing attendees with a closer look at its operations.
