Archive and KBTU: new partnership and cooperation
On May 3, 2024, a meeting was held between the Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Mustafinа and the Rector, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh-British Technical University M. Gabdullin, as well as representatives of the KBTU School of Information Technology and Engineering. The Director of the Archive told colleagues from the education sector about the peculiarities of the work of the Archive and shed light on the plans for the near future, in which it is important to involve the younger generation of archivists and IT specialists. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation and organization of joint projects, including the joint implementation of a project on robotics and virtual reality in the educational process, which will be related to archival activities. In the world of rapidly developing technologies, the archival sphere is constantly being improved and it is possible to keep up with the times only by relying on new knowledge.
Expert of the Service for digitalization and development of electronic archives, E. Musabaev, showed the guests the materials of the virtual exhibition “Independence Above All.” Working on the creation of such projects can be a useful practice for novice IT specialists. Work in the field of artificial intelligence and recognition of digitized documents is also of great importance for archival activities. KBTU already has experience working on such projects. As a result of the discussion of promising projects, agreements were reached on holding joint events, organizing participation of students and teaching staff of KBTU in the work of the Summer School of Archivists, then the II Congress of Archivists of Kazakhstan in October of this year. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to prepare a memorandum of cooperation. The delegation from the university was given an tour through the Archive Reading Room and Laboratory wing. The guests were interested in the work on digitizing archival documents and the related processes of providing digital scanned versions of documents to researchers coming to the Archive.
