Archival materials reveal the history of theatrical art in Kazakhstan
On June 17, 2024, a presentation of the exhibition “Archival materials of the history of theatrical art of Kazakhstan” took place. The exhibition was prepared based on documents from the funds of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The presentation took place as part of the opening ceremony of the First Theater Festival of Musical Performances, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Republican State Academic Uyghur Musical Comedy Theater named after K. Kuzhamyarov. The exhibition presents for the first time archival documents that reflect the history of the origins and development of the Uyghur Theater.
Among them: an extract from the minutes of the meeting of the Bureau of the Almaty Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party No. 58 dated August 3, 1934 about the Uyghur theater, the repertoire of national theaters from 1936, permission to move the Uyghur regional theater to the village of Chilik in 1941, the schedule of theater tours in 1941. Also included in the exhibition materials are photographic documents and film footage of the history of the Uyghur theater from the funds of the Central State Archive of Film-Photo Documents and Sound Recordings of the Republic of Kazakhstan. After the opening of the exhibition, the festival program continued with the musical drama “Anarkhan”, which premiered in 1934 and became a major event in the cultural life of the republic. It was with this production that the history of the Uyghur theater began and to this day, it remains the hallmark of the theater.
